The holiday season is full of parties, family gatherings, and festive fun – and while it’s a wonderful time, it can also be tough on your skin. Between late nights, heavy make-up, rich food, and indoor heating, it’s easy for your complexion to look dull, dehydrated, or tired.
Pre-Festivity Skincare: Prepare Your Skin for the Season
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Winter air, central heating, and festive indulgences can dehydrate your skin. Start with:
- Drinking plenty of water
- Using hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid such as SkinVital CE Ferulic serum
- Applying barrier-supporting moisturisers with ceramides, squalane, or fatty acids
2. Gentle Cleansing & Exfoliation
- Cleanse thoroughly to remove pollution and excess oils but avoid over-exfoliating, especially in winter. You may find that plain water may suffice in the mornings.
- Reduce harsher exfoliators- use no more than once daily at the end of the day and stick to gentler formulas eg Tebiskin OSK clean (has pyruvic acid) or Mandelic acid preparations rather than the more drying salicylic acid.
3. SPF Protection
Even in winter, UV radiation is still present and UVA rays penetrate windows, so daily SPF is essential — particularly if you’re heading outdoors for festive activities. Make it part of your routine- no need to look outside or check the temperature.
4. Pre-Party Glow Boosters
For an instant boost before events, consider:
- Laser Genesis for luminosity and even tone
- Skin boosters such as Profhilo or Newest polynucleotide/ hyaluronic acid injections
- Light serums and moisturisers to create a smooth makeup canvas
Post-Festivity Skincare: Repair & Restore
After late nights, heavy make-up, and indulgent meals, your skin needs recovery and support.
1. Double Cleanse
Remove make-up thoroughly but gently using either micellar water or non-irritant product such as Clinique- Take the day off. Follow by washing with a gentle cleanser as above to clear impurities from the day.
2. Replenish Moisture
Apply hydrating serums and rich but oil- free moisturisers to repair your skin barrier. I love Obagi Hydrate luxe or Tebiskin Ceraboost. CeraVe PM facial moisturising lotion is an affordable alternative. Overnight hydration works wonders for tired winter skin.
3. Treat Hangover Skin
Alcohol and lack of sleep can leave your skin dehydrated, dull, and puffy. Combat this with:
- Cooling eye gels or masks for puffiness
- Antioxidant-rich serums to combat free radical damage
- Facial mists for instant refreshment
4. Calm & Repair
- Barrier-supporting moisturisers
- Soothing masks (hydrating or anti-redness) eg Meder Red- Apax mask
- Professional treatments such as needling with exosomes or polynucleotides to accelerate recovery
Extra Tips for Winter Festivities
- Humidify your environment to prevent dryness from central heating
- Avoid introducing new strong actives during high-stress days
- Get adequate rest — sleep is one of the most important steps in skincare
- Protect your skin from harsh winds and indoor heating with richer moisturisers
